Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW)
employs the UniCard

Villingen-Schwenningen. Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) has decided to introduce the UniCard of InterCard AG Informationssysteme. The project will be inaugurated during the current half-year. With 12,500 students the HAW Hamburg is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in northern Germany.

InterCard technology is already being used for access and timekeeping for staff at the HAW. In a project phase which will be starting shortly the UniCard is to be expanded to provide a personalised student and staff identity card with a photo. It will serve as a payment card in the canteen and library, for printing and photocopying and as a ticket for travel on the Hamburg public transport system. In future phases it is planned to introduce the full spectrum of uses of the card.

The importance of winning this invitation to tender extends far beyond the direct effect of increased turnover. Until now, the Hamburg university landscape was one of the "white spots" on the map with regard to the use of intelligent smart card systems. Now the various institutes of education have set themselves the task of introducing one which covers the entire region. And since - as in many other university regions - a wide-ranging network is planned, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences' decision will mean that in future InterCard AG Informationssysteme will be in a much-improved position when it comes to further invitations to tender.
